It has been a while since we have heard from the singer-songwriter, but now we know why. We had already begun to see teasers of what seemed to be new music via the artist's social media platforms. She emerges from her hiatus with a nine track R&B album that is completely different from anything that she has done before. Voice Memos is a collective of personal voice notes that allow you to tap into the most intimate sections of her love life...past, present and future.
Everything about this album completely allows the listener to connect with Rene as a person and as an artist. The album features low-fi, alternative, and pop R&B production, courtesy of long term collaborator, Weku Did That, coupled with Rene's undeniable vocal delivery and remarkable songwriting capabilities.
Rene Bonét has already had many great achievements, with her stellar cover of "Before I Let You Go" by Blackstreet which gained the attention of R&B juggernaut Teddy Riley and led to him co-signing her and stating that he wanted the remix. Her last single "Nights Like This" charted on the R&B charts and music video charts and earned a long-term slot on Apple Music's coveted Brown Sugar playlist and more.
Music industry critiques have labeled this album to be some of the best music they have heard from Rene, with several radio stations ready to push the albums lead singles into heavy rotation. The album is set to go on pre-order on March 15, 2024, with a release date of April 12, 2024. It is easy to project the success of this project as music that will be considered relatable and everlasting.
