Rachel (Lea Michele) and Kurt (Chris Colfer) learned this lesson the hard way on Glee this week when they returned to Lima for McKinley High's production of Grease, directed by Finn (Cory Monteith) and featuring Blaine (Darren Criss).
So what happened when the exes came face-to-face in the Fox hit's Nov. 15 outing, "Glease"? Spoiler alert: Finchel and Klaine fans were probably hoping the reunions would go better. Much better.
Plus, Marley (Melissa Benoist) struggles with her fear of becoming overweight, Ryder (Blake Jenner) makes a move, and Kitty (Becca Tobin) continues to be the worst human being in the history of (fictional) human beings!
Growing Pains: In a twist we all saw coming, Rachel experiences her first non-Finn-related heartbreak when she learns that Brody (Dean Geyer) hooked up with Cassandra (Kate Hudson) while she was in Lima. Why? Because Cassandra was mad that Rachel suggested she audition for an off-Broadway show to get back in the game. "I am the game," she tells "Schwimmer" over the phone.
And who should a teary-eyed Rachel run into right after the phone call from hell but Finn, who soon realizes that she's crying over a guy that's not him. He then suggests they stop speaking for a while and says the next time she comes home, he doesn't want to know about it. Ouch. We guess this is growing up?
The trip back to Lima wasn't an ideal one for Kurt, either, who still could barely look at Blaine after their nasty split. (In case you hit your head recently: Blaine cheated.) Though Blaine tried to explain, Kurt wasn't interested in Blaine's reasons for stepping out on their relationship, telling his former Teenage Dream that he no longer trusts him. "This isn't home anymore," Kurt tells him, before leaving with Rachel to head back to their new lives.
A New McKinley Power Couple: Raise your hand if you're loving Marley and Ryder together as much as we are! And raise the other if you're hating Kitty as much as we are! (You should be waving both of your hands in the air right now like you just don't care!) In a truly cruel move, Kitty is altering Marley's Sandy costumes to make her believe she is gaining weight (like her mother) and even teaches her how to make herself throw up. What a gal! Luckily, Ryder stops her and gives her a much-needed confidence boost and kiss, which a jealous Jake (Jacob Artist) sees. Ya snooze, ya lose, buddy!
Recouplings on the Horizon?: After working together on Grease, Mike Chang (Harry Shum Jr.) thinks he and Tina (Jenna Ushkowitz) were too quick to end their relationship when he left for college. While she doesn't exactly say she wants to get back together, Tina hints that a reunion is definitely in the works for the Changs. As for Brittany (Heather Morris) and Santana (Naya Rivera), the fan-favorite couple reconnect when Ms. Lopez returns to McKinley to play Rizzo. (Meanwhile, the parents of Unique, played by Alex Newell, decided they did not want him taking the stage.) In one of our favorite scenes, Brittany and Santana are able to sit and reminisce on their relationship in a positive light, a stark contrast to Rachel and Finn, and Kurt and Blaine. It's still clear that there is a lot of love between the ladies, and we wouldn't be surprised to see Brittana back together by the holidays.
Parting Is Such Sweet Sorrow: So long, Mr. Schuester (Matthew Morrison)! Yes, Will is finally off to Washington for a few months, leaving Finn in charge of the glee club until after sectionals. Too bad Sue (Jane Lynch) is not at all happy about Finn's new leadership role and has reinstated New Directions as her McKinley High enemy No. 1. Yikes!
