You can bet that there were more than a few tears on the 50-yard line.

Backed by a squadron of cuties from the Sandy Hook Elementary School, Jennifer Hudson rocked "America the Beautiful" at the Superdome on Sunday, officially opening 2013 Super Bowl.

J.Hud's white, buttoned skirt looked more like an homage to baseball than pigskins, but she proved a graceful accompaniment to the kids, who sang first before Hudson chimed in.

The whole group, Hudson included, wore green ribbons to honor the victims of the Dec. 14 shooting at the Newtown, Conn., school. Twenty children and six adults died during that massacre.

Tonight's performance was equal parts emotional and uplifting—in other words, it was perfect.
