Contrary to reports, Justin Timberlake did not slam Britney Spears.

So says the hitmaker-turned-actor, who took to Twitter on Sunday before the Big Game to vehemently deny reports he called his ex-girlfriend a "bitch" during Saturday evening's DirecTV Super Bowl concert in New Orleans.

"Ok. I see you. Wouldn't disrespect ANYONE personally. Ever. #Relax #ItsBritneyBitch I do love that saying though*with accent* #Respect," Timberlake tweeted, reassuring upset Spears fans.

Glad he cleared that up!

The popster felt obligated to issue a response after some stage banter got taken out of context, which he unleashed right before launching into his breakup anthem "Cry Me a River."

"Sometimes in life, you think you found the one," Timberlake told the audience, "but then one day you find out that she is just some bitch."

The single's release in 2002 sparked media reports that the song was inspired by his split with the "Oops!...I Did It Again" songbird, a fact Timberlake finally confirmed in a December 2011 interview with The Huffington Post.

In this case, however, it's good to know he was just speaking generally.
