After unveiling the new fall schedule, Nikita fans were left wondering when the CW series will kick off its six-episode final season run, so we went right to the network's president Mark Pedowitz at the Upfronts presentation in New York City to find out when Nikita (Maggie Q) and the gang would be back.
Plus, Pedowitz tackled other burning questions, including why The Selection failed to get picked up (again) and if the CW will still tackle a Wonder Woman series in the future...
"The game plan is to use Nikita later in the fall," Pedowitz said of the cult-favorite action-drama's final season, noting that the cast and crew "will probably start production mid-July, maybe late August."
As for the short episode order, he explained, "We felt that six episodes was the way to go. We wanted to give the fans a conclusion."
And Pedowitz confirmed that Beauty and the Beast received a 22-episode order for its second season, while Carrie Diaries, which will now air on Fridays, was only picked up for 13, "but Carrie was a midseason show, so the obligation was only 13," he noted.
Last season, DC Comics fans were guardedly optimistic when the CW picked up a Wonder Woman project called Amazon, which centered on the heroine after being raised in a brutal and secluded country where she spent most of her time on the battlefield. But the project never seemed to go anywhere.
"Oh God yes, it is being redeveloped," Pedowitz said when asked if he still wants to try and bring the superhero to the small screen, but admitted "it's the trickiest DC hero to get right." (It's worth noting that the network experienced tremendous success with Arrow, its adaptation of DC Comics' Green Arrow!) He also revealed that writer Allan Heinberg is no longer attached to Amazon. "We will prepare the pilot off-cycle if the script is what we need it to be," Pedowitz added.
As for the network passing on The Selection pilot once again, Pedowitz said, "It was a terrific pilot this year, but it's a matter of numbers." And fans of the young-adult book series upon which the failed pilot was based on shouldn't get their hopes up that the CW will give it a third attempt next development season, with Pedowitz sayng, it's "unlikely that we will revisit."
