The busy Avengers star has been cast in Shakespeare's not-so-frequently-performed tragedy Coriolanus, set to open at Donmar Warehouse in London's West End in December.
Following a seemingly nonstop spate of Hollywood movie roles, in particular his fan-favorite turn as Loki in Thor, The Avengers and the upcoming Thor sequel, the 32-year-old native Londoner is heading back to his theatrical roots to portray Shakespeare's complex Roman general in the bloody play.
Of course this isn't the first time the classically trained thesp has tackled the Bard, most recently playing Henry V in the BBC's adaptation The Hollow Crown.
While it's obvious the aristocratic-looking War Horse star is on a patrician roll playing monarchs and military leaders (heck, even Loki wasn't just any old plebeian deity but a god prince), it sounds like Tom may be detouring a bit in 2014's Muppets...Again!—with a character called The Great Escapo. Hmm.
As for whether we'll see Hiddles back for 2015's Avengers 2, the actor claimed in a March interview that he really isn't sure whether Joss Whedon has in mind a return for the villainous Loki or not.
Either way, we don't think he'll be suffering for lack of work.
