Will Smith wants to do something that scares him: move away from big box office flicks.
The 44-year-old actor sat down with Digital Spy to discuss his father-son film After Earth, which is currently in theaters, but he also hinted at his desire to depart from making box office blockbusters.
"I've been really focused and it's been an absolute necessity that the movie be a blockbuster," he said of his latest action film, which also stars son Jaden Smith. "But I think I'm going to start moving out of that and finding more danger in my artistic choices."
As for his biggest fear when it comes to movie-making?
"The movie opening at No. 2," he confessed. "I just gave myself a chill."
Although After Earth undoubtedly underperformed at the box office and was equally savaged by critics, Jada Pinkett Smith's other half is still proud of his project and has no plans to stop storytelling.
"I love to create," he said. "It's not the movie-making probably as much as the storytelling. I love people being wrapped in a story and being able to deliver that emotional punch line at the end of the story."
And we love watching Will deliver it.
