Veronica Mars fans will be seeing the return of Sheriff Lamb when the cult series hits the big screen in 2014. But wait, you might be saying, didn't Don Lamb (Michael Mahoney) die in season three?
Well, Veronica's (Kristen Bell) nemesis isn't returning from the grave; his brother Dan Lamb will be in charge of Neptune's police department in the Kicktstarter-funded film. And they landed quite the guest star to play him: Jerry O'Connell!
Creator Rob Thomas announced the good news in an email to Kickstarter backers, saying, "I'm pleased to tell you that Jerry O'Connell has joined Veronica Mars as Sheriff Dan Lamb, a new Lamb Brother I hope you love to hate."
Thomas highlighted O'Connell's jerkish turn in the horror flick Piranha 3D as his main reason for casting him in the role. "When it came time to cast the amoral older brother of Don Lamb as the new sheriff of Balboa County, I lit up when Jerry's name was raised," he explained.
"I was a big Veronica Mars fan," O'Connell says in a video he recorded for Kickstarter backers, adding that he had no idea he was playing Sheriff Lamb's "younger brother" until two days before filming his scenes.
