Well, this looks extremely painful.

Rihanna decided to commemorate her recent trip to New Zealand during her Diamonds world tour by getting a traditional Maori tattoo on her hand. The somewhat cringeworthy technique used to achieve the finished product? Not a needle, but instead, ink pigment applied with a mallet and a chisel.

Ouch!

The tattooing was captured in a YouTube video at Moko Ink studio in West Auckland, which was posted on Wednesday, Oct. 9 by a local named Tiki Taane.

RiRi looks calm and composed, considering the circumstances. She decides not to watch (smart choice) and even manages to smile and joke with the two artists.

To complete the tattoo, one artist is using the mallet while the other applies the chisel. The design is an intricate series of lines and symbols starting at RiRi's red manicured fingertips and continuing down her forearm.

The singer is sporting a casual look: a grey sweatshirt, black leggings and gold earrings.

RiRi proudly showed off the finished tattoo, raising her hand and covering her face.

And even though RiRi has a bunch of ink, we are willing to bet that this might have been the most painful tattoo experience yet!

Next up? The R&B superstar has a few days off from her world tour, and will perform in South Africa on Oct. 13.

Warning: This video might be tough to watch.
