Amanda Bynes certainly appears to be happier and healthier these days.

In December 2013, the 27-year-old former child star completed a nearly six-month stint in rehab. She then moved with her parents, Lynn and Rick Bynes, and has created a new life for herself.

She kicked off the New Year with a $3,250 week-long trip to Miracles Fitness Retreat in Utah. Austan Torson, the owner and personal trainer at the facility, told E! News Amanda "was interested in getting healthier… to get in better shape, to lose about five pounds, but mainly to strengthen up and eat healthier."

Since the end of her retreat, she's amped up her workouts, too. Her mom and dad have taken turns dropping her off at an L.A. gym, and inside Amanda's been spotted putting in some time on the elliptical machine.

Amanda even started school earlier this month at Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM) at the school's Orange County campus. A source tells E! News that she was "originally going to be a fashion design major but has now decided to pursue merchandise product development. She is enrolled part-time for the winter quarter."

Another positive thing Amanda has going for her? Related charges stemming from the alleged bong-tossing case in May will be dismissed if she stays out of trouble for six months and goes to counseling. On Jan. 10, the actress was offered and accepted (via her attorney Gerald Shargel, who appeared on her behalf) an adjournment in contemplation of dismissal, meaning if she complies with these terms, then case will ultimately be dismissed.

Upon exiting the courthouse, Amanda's lawyer told reporters his client was doing well but had a "long road" ahead of her. Fortunately, though, it seems like Amanda's got the tools and support system in place to keep moving forward healthfully.
