Devone Byrd/PacificCoastNewsAshley Tisdale took a short break from planning her wedding with fiancé Christopher French in order to focus on throwing him a surprise birthday bash!
E! News has learned that the 28-year-old actress invited a group of close friends and family to help celebrate her beau's special day Wednesday at RivaBella in West Hollywood.
A source tells us that the event was fairly low-key and that "there weren't any celeb friends there."
And according to our insider, the soon-to-be Mr. and Mrs. French "were holding hands and kissing the whole time, sitting next to each other. Very lovey dovey."
The group gathered in the restaurant's Wine Cave, anxiously awaiting Christopher's arrival so they could all give him a big (and surprising, obviously) welcome!
Birthday party guests dined on a family-style feast which included pizza, roasted octopus, an assortment of pastas and filet mignon. Yum!
After the dinner, the birthday boy opened gifts in front of partygoers and was presented with a massive cake as everyone sang "Happy Birthday."
And maybe the intimate affair will be similar to the engaged couples' wedding considering that Tisdale recently opened up to Ryan Seacrest about her future nuptials.
The former High School Musical star confessed that she and her fiancé want a small wedding.
"As private as we can get," she revealed on On Air With Ryan Seacrest.
