The pop star announced her musical comeback Wednesday after signing a contract with RCA Records. Her new single, "Chasing the Sun," was written by Colbie Caillat, Jason Reeves and Toby Gad. It will be available for digital download on July 29, the same day the music video is scheduled to debut on VEVO.
"I couldn't be more excited to join the RCA family!" the 26-year-old singer told E! News in a statement. "I love my team there and feel so lucky to be in the company of their talented artists. I came to them with my vision for the album and it has been a real labor of love, but something I am so proud of."
"'Chasing the Sun' is just a peek into my new album," she added. "I've worked very hard and the album is a great representation of the experiences I've had in my life and where I want to go from here!"
Duff hasn't released a full-length album of new material since 2007's Dignity. Capitalizing on the success of Disney Channel's Lizzie McGuire, she released hit singles like "So Yesterday" and "Come Clean" (from 2003's Metamorphosis), "Wake Up" (from 2005's Most Wanted) and "Fly" (from 2007's Hilary Duff).
"I took a break from music for quite awhile, but it gave me the power to choose my next steps carefully and I'm really proud of the album I've made," said Duff, whose untitled album will be released this fall. "'Chasing the Sun' is a light and fun summer song that I hope helps people to feel a little more carefree."
Duff was photographed shooting a music video in Malibu July 11. During the iHeartRadio Music Awards in May, Duff told E! News that she was busy writing new music in the studio "and just getting back to it."
"Chasing the Sun" will be heard for the first time at New York City's Marquee nightclub Thursday.
