Fans of One Direction might love the same boy band, but they don't necessarily all share the same political views.

Zayn Malik discovered this firsthand after he weighed in on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict on Twitter Sunday night, posting the "#FreePalestine" hashtag to his 13 million followers.

Since then, the tweet has been re-tweeted and favorited over 160,000 times. While some 1D fans voiced their appreciation for Zayn's public show of Palestinian support, others—particularly those in Israel—were outraged, with some reportedly even making death threats against the 21-year-old Brit.

The boy-bander isn't the first celeb to weigh in on the unfortunate situation in the Middle East. Earlier this month, Rihanna tweeted—and quickly deleted—the same #FreePalestine hashtag. Hours later, she posted another tweet, writing, "Let's pray for peace and a swift end to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict! Is there any hope?...."

Selena Gomez took note of the ongoing conflict, too, posting an image on Instagram that said, "It's about humanity. Pray for Gaza." She added a personal message that read: "Please pray for those families and babies today. Please always remember what's important in life. It's not any of this. We are here to help, inspire and love. Be that change. #wearethenextgeneration."

This prompted backlash, and a few hours later, Selena responded with an Instagram shot of a woman sitting in the ocean, writing, ""And of course to be clear, I am not picking any sides. I am praying for peace and humanity for all!"
