Days of Our Lives star Freddie Smith and his girlfriend, Alyssa Tabit, were seriously injured Tuesday morning after their car lost control.

According to the police report obtained by E! News, the couple was driving in Kingsville Township, Ohio when authorities say Smith failed to safely negotiate a left curve and lost control. The vehicle crossed the centerline and struck a culvert.

As a result, the car was overturned where Tabit, the passenger, was temporarily trapped inside. Police believe speed and alcohol may have played a factor in the crash.

Days co-star Molly Burnett was able to speak with Smith after the crash and gave fans an update.

"He and Alyssa are OKAY. They were in a serious car accident last night, but were able to receive medical help IMMEDIATELY," she wrote on Facebook. "Freddie was released from the hospital, and Alyssa will be in surgery for a few more hours." Burnett later announced Alyssa was out of surgery, which "went really well."

Burnett also told followers that both of their families were heading to the hospitals and they were "in the best hands."

Smith plays Sonny Kiriakis on the popular NBC daytime soap opera. Co-star Guy Wilson also shared his support for his friend online.

.@FreddieSmith and @AlyssaTabit were involved in a very serious car accident," he wrote on Twitter. "Please, everyone, send prayers and love."
