Last week, the rumor will went wild over a false report that Bruce Jenner was dating Kris Jenner's BFF.

Really, though, the Keeping Up With the Kardashians matriarch "[doesn't] care who he goes out with," she told Hoda Kotb on Today, adding, "I just want him to be happy!"

"I don't know who he's dating," said Kris, 58. "He doesn't like check in with me and give me a play by play, but it's his life, and you just want the guy to be happy. You know, he's still the father of two of my children. We're friends."

The mom of six, who just published her first cookbook, In the Kitchen with Kris: A Kollection of Kardashian-Jenner Family Favorites, is "very happy" post-split, too. "I think at some point in your life you have to make a decision to do what's right for your family and the kids," she said, "and I think that we decided to be grownups...We're just better apart than we are together, but we're still really good friends."

Hoda even asked Kris about tabloid rumors claiming Bruce is "developing into a woman." Her response? "It's silly," she said with a laugh. "They've been saying that since thee '70s. You'd think it'd be cooked by now, I don't know—but [that storyline] keeps continuing....They keep regurgitating the same old stuff."

Kris, of course, is used to seeing her family picked apart in the headlines. This happened just recently to daughters Kylie Jenner, 17, and Kendall Jenner, 18, when the sisters were named to Time magazine's list of Most Influential Teens of 2014—an honor some claimed was undeserved.

Mom brushed aside the backlash. "I'm really proud of those two," she said, "because they are amazing kids with great hearts. They're really smart, and they work hard. They've got that great work ethic that they've picked up probably from their older siblings...Everything that they do they do with a lot of passion."

"They actually have the best education in the world doing what they're doing," added Kris, "because they've learned so much about business and being an entrepreneur and how to make things happen from nothing."
