The fashion world has lost a truly remarkable talent.

Oscar de la Renta, who is known for his stunning designs that have graced numerous red carpets and influential events throughout his 50 years in the industry, has died at the age of 82.

The iconic designer's cause of death was not clear. However, he was diagnosed with cancer in 2006, but said in an interview last year with the International Business Times that he was "totally clean" of the disease and not at all interested in retirement. He recently designed Amal Clooney's wedding gown, and appeared in the pages of Vogue with George Clooney's bride, taken during her fitting.

Also earlier this month, Michelle Obama made headlines when she finally wore a de la Renta dress to an event, joining the first ladies club that also includes Jackie Kennedy, Nancy Reagan, Hillary Clinton and Laura Bush.

And now many of those who have either worn Oscar de la Renta's beautiful creations or just appreciated his work have taken to Twitter to mourn his death.
