Mark Ruffalo is a busy guy!

So busy, in fact, that he had to miss the 21st Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards Sunday because he had to work early Monday morning. A groggy by grateful Ruffalo took a selfie in bed and shared it on Instagram, writing, "Upon waking and hearing from my wife and kids that I won a @sagawards for #TheNormalHeart Love wins tonight!"

Ruffalo was named Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Miniseries or Television Movie for his role as Ned Weeks in HBO's The Normal Heart; He beat Adrien Brody (Houdini), Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock: His Last Vow), Richard Jenkins (Olive Kitteridge) and Billy Bob Thornton (Fargo). Ruffalo, 47, was also nominated in the Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role category for his role Dave Schultz in Foxcatcher; he lost to J.K. Simmons, who played Terence Fletcher in Whiplash.

Julia Roberts, who co-starred in The Normal Heart and was also nominated for her role in the TV movie, made sure to give Ruffalo a special shout-out when she presented the award for Outstanding Male Actor in a Leading Role. "Good evening. They had a wordy little tongue twister for me to start with about how fabulous actors are, but instead, I just want to say, Mark Ruffalo is one outstanding actor," Roberts said. "I am so absolutely tickled to my toes that he won tonight. He wasn't here. Waiting for that Nor'easter."

Matt Bomer recognized his co-star via Twitter, writing, "Congrats @MarkRuffalo on your @SAGawards for Best Actor! Well deserved, and I'm so glad your brilliant performance was recognized. Amazing!"

Had he been able to attend the ceremony, Ruffalo would have given shout-outs to the following people: "Special thank you to all my brother and sister actors for this incredible distinction. It's really the one that matters. @SAGAwards," the actor tweeted. " Thank You Reps! Shani Rosenzweig, Billy Lazarus, Tracy Jacobs, Scott Wexler, Aleen Keshisian, Margret Riley, Keith Kleven, Stuart Gelwarg. Thank you PR team! Jessica Kolstad, Nicole Caruso, Alexandra Kahn and Grace Yi! Last but not least. Thanks to all you folks who have supported the movie and me all these years. Good night. Again. A very special thanks to the love of my life, my pal, and my partner Sunrise Ruffalo. And [my children] Keen, Bella, and Odette."

Ruffalo returned to work Monday morning and shared another selfie with his 284,000 Instagram followers. "Hanging on the set of 'Now You See Me The Second Act' with @KeithBarry," he wrote in the caption.
