Greece Elects a New Prime Minister and Syriza Leader Alexis Tsipras Thanks...Hugh Laurie, of Course!

To be fair, the House star had congratulated Tsipras' left-wing party first

Well, Hugh Laurie is who we'd thank first if we had just completed our diagnostician residencies, so...why not thank him first when you're elected premier of Greece as well?!

After the results were in from yesterday's election, incoming Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, leader of the anti-bailout Syriza party, took to Twitter and, before anything else, thanked the British actor.

Of course to be fair, Laurie had congratulated Syriza first, writing in that learned way of his, "Bravo Syriza! Must feel like they've just won a giant edition of Storage Wars, but let's hope those boxes are full of good stuff. Καλή τύχη!"

Using Greek letters and everything.

"Thank you Dr.," Tsipras, who's apparently a House fan, replied.

So, Tsipras has great taste in TV, but time will tell how he goes about unpacking Greece's financial baggage, looking for the proverbial valuable antiques among the crap as a successful bidder would have to do on Storage Wars.

He was sworn in Monday, taking a secular oath rather than participating in the traditional Greek Orthodox-shrouded swearing-in.

The 40-year-old leader, who has promised to renegotiate the terms of the European Union's bailout of Greece, has intrigued the likes of Russell Brand as well, the increasingly political comedian tweeting yesterday that he would vote for the Syriza party—because, and this is a compliment from Brand, "what do the Greeks know about democracy anyway?"
