Watch out, Bruno Mars: it looks like your smooth moves have some competition, thanks to this high school teacher.
Scot Pankey, a teacher at A. Maceo New Tech High School in Dallas, gave his students a project assignment to create a music video to the tune of Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars' hit "Uptown Funk" while also offering to participate in the project, much to the delight of his students from six different theater classes.
"I told them, ‘' am not a dancer, but I'd love to do this and go on this journey with you, and we can all learn from it and have a good time,'" he told the Dallas Morning News. "And they were all on board."
Their group efforts resulted in a very impressive video, which was uploaded to YouTube on Sunday and has since gone viral with nearly 4 million views.
"I heard the song before Christmas and fell in love with it. We are a project-based school—there are only two in the Metroplex—and that means you give the students a project, put them in teams, and they have to come up with solutions," he explained of the assignment. "They had three weeks to work on it, then present as a group what they learned."
The video, which was shot in a single take, was filmed by members of the student council—and we dare you to try and watch it while resisting the urge to boogie down.
After the clip began making the Internet rounds, Bruno Mars himself took notice and took to Facebook to applaud their efforts. "I cried at the end," he wrote. "I'm still a thug though. Thank you to everyone involved in making this video."
"We had a great time," Pankey said of the project. "I am overwhelmed by the response. I am honored. It's all been very positive."
