There are few people that know the history of Oscar hair better than Adir Abergel. Easily one of the most famous celebrity hairstylist on the planet, he has been getting A-listers ready for the Academy Awards for well over a decade.

And on Sunday he will be working his magic yet again on Best Actress winner Reese Witherspoon.

But before this year's red carpet prepping begins we asked the beloved mane man to pick his top 5 favorite hairstylist from past Oscars. We have a feeling you're going to agree with his choices:

1. Marisa Tomei in 2009: "This was an updo with cascades of soft movement that mirrored the twists and turns of the dress," says Abergel, explaining his work. "I loved the texture and the softness of the bangs."

2. Sandra Bullock in 2010: "Sandra's dress had such beautiful sparkle and reflection, I wanted to bring out that mirror-finish to her hair," he recalls. "This look was a modern, straighter version of an Old Hollywood, Veronica Lake look with really great movement on the bottom."

3. Anne Hathaway in 2011: "This was the year Anne Hosted the Oscars and we created eight amazing hairstyles for her in one night. It was so much fun! She walked the red carpet in this gorgeous low chignon, and after each outfit change we created a new hairstyle. I loved them all! A few of my favorites were the flirty ponytail paired with her lanvin tuxedo, the undone beach waves accented with a center part and the undo that we closed the show."

4. Gwyneth Paltrow in 2012: "Gwyneth wore this amazing sleek white dress by Tom Ford that had an amazing cape. I wanted to bring the same fluidity to her hair. But it was all about simplicity. We went for a glossy and gorgeous low ponytail. The finished effect was so stunning that night."

5. Michelle Williams in 2006: "This is one of the most iconic Oscars looks," gushes Adir of hairstylist Jennifer J's updo. "Michelle channeled old Hollywood that night, her bangs were artfully styled complimented with  a soft, wavy side bun. It was glamorous and modern. I think she was the belle of the ball that year."
