Of course it was about Fifty Shades of Grey

Stars really are just like regular people!

Dakota Johnson and Melanie Griffith proved that when the Fifty Shades of Grey actress got a little fed up with her mom on the Oscars red carpet when she insisted on not having to watch the risqué film. But it looks like Johnson just wants to feel supported, as she snapped at her mom for not wanting to watch her successful film while interviewing with ABC's Lara Spencer.

"She's a really good actress," Griffith told Spencer, when asked about her daughter's movie. "I don't need to see [Fifty Shades] to know how good she is."

But her 25-year-old daughter, who seemed to have had this conversation with her mom on more than one occasion, then snapped "Alright! You don't have to see it," before turning her face away from the camera and adding, "Jesus Christ."

Although we probably can't relate to our own mom's not watching us in a BDSM film, we can totally understand the frustration!

Spencer did her best to quell the awkward tension by explaining why Griffith might not want to watch the film (full-frontal nudity, explicit sex scenes, etc.) but Johnson wasn't having any of it.

"It's a movie. She knows that," she responded, before adding, "I'm like, ‘You can see it!' and she's just like, ‘No.'"

Maybe now she'll watch it?! We can only hope for Griffith's sake that she changes her mind. The red carpet fight comes as a bit of a surprise, however, as Johnson had previously told her parents that they wouldn't be allowed to watch her!

"I have not seen Fifty Shades of Grey. I don't think I'm going to see it," Griffith told IndieWire over the summer. "[Dakota] was like, 'You guys cannot come. There's no way.' So we're not going. I did go visit for a couple of days when they were shooting just normal stuff. I did see the Room of Pain—I did go in there and check it out."

At some point her daughter must have changed her mind because it seems to be a point of tension between them now!
