InstagramNikki Reed is speaking up for pets in need!
The animal activist and actress traveled to the State Capitol in California Tuesday afternoon to testify on behalf on Assembly Bill 147 that could help give cats and dogs the opportunity to be adopted after they've been tested on.
"Animals used for science should not be discarded—the cruelty that they endure being used for research purposes is harsh enough," she captioned on Instagram. "Let's not further the abuse by claiming the rescues are not equipped to help them live out the rest of their lives peacefully."
Before testifying, Reed showed off her four-legged beagle friend Emma who is a survivor from a San Francisco testing facility. "The holes in her ears are a testament to the horror she endured," she wrote on social media. "#AB147 @Beaglefreedom"
So how did the meeting with the politicians go? With help from Assembly member Matt Dababneh, Reed was able to help get the bill passed where it will now travel to the Senate.
"We did it! Higher Ed passed #AB147!!!" she shared with fans. "What a long day, a beautiful day, a day that has left me with a fire burning inside my soul—round two is next—Senate, here we come! The fight isn't over, but thanks to all of you—the thousands of you that called in earlier—we cleared the first hurdle. I love you guys. Truly. @beaglefreedom"
Reed's animal activism is already spreading in the Hollywood community. Whitney Cummings and Kate Upton called the Twilight star their #WCW in honor of Woman Crush Wednesday.
And as you can expect, Ian Somerhalder is also so proud of what his fiancée is accomplishing.
"Wishing I could be there to support @iamnikkireed and the bill she is testifying in favor of," he wrote on Instagram. "I am hoping we bring awareness to an issue that most don't know anything about. Testing on beagles for research purposes and then simply discarding them is nothing short of inhumane."
