And in this sneak peek at tonight's premiere episode of The Royals, which is centered around the lives of a fictional, modern-day British monarchy, King Simon (Vincent Regan) makes a shocking confession to his family shortly after receiving devastating news regarding his eldest son Prince Robert's death.
Just as Queen Helena (Elizabeth Hurley) is about to leave the dinner table, her husband stops her.
"I think you'll want to stay to hear this next part, my love," King Simon says. "I think you all will."
"I'm considering asking Parliament for a referendum," he continues. "To abolish the monarchy."
Wait, what?!
