Empire ended its inaugural season on top of the world, but things are getting a little tricky in the off season.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the show is currently in a legal battle to keep its name. Fox has been hit with demands from a California company called Empire Distribution, Inc. that it pay $5 million and cast several of the company's artists on the show. Apparently the other Empire believes it holds the rights to the word. And they're claiming that the show has tarnished the company's name by associating it with "a label run by a homophobic drug dealer prone to murdering his friends."
Of course the real Empire isn't going to take this lying down—Fox has filed a preemptive lawsuit to keep the name, claiming it has every right to use the word for the show's title. This case is just beginning, but something tells us everything's going to work out fine for everyone. But, just to be safe, we thought it would be smart to do some brainstorming on alternate titles for our favorite drama. It's always good to plan ahead, right?
