It's funny...because it's true?

Chris Rock knows a lot more about comedy than we do, so we're going to let him do the talking on this one.

During an Instagram video of Chris' first day on the set of FOX's Empire, where he is guest starring as a fellow inmate who's locked up with Lucious Lyon (Terrence Howard), Terrence joked that he accidentally punched Chris in the stomach.

"I don't know if it was an accident," Rock shot back. "He does have a reputation."

"Oooh!" Empire creator Lee Daniels replied, as Howard let out a laugh.

Rock may or may not have been knowingly referring to Howard's past allegations of violence and domestic abuse—something co-star Taraji P. Henson (Cookie Lyon) also addressed in this month's issue of Allure

Instagram

"Let's pop the trunk to your life and see what's dysfunctional and what's bad," Henson told the magazine. "At the end of the day, we're all human and we got flaws and we got s--t."

Let the record show: The Lyons stick together.

Of course, whether Taraji and Terrence's characters, Cookie and Lucious, stick together on the show is looking more doubtful, since season two finds Lucious in prison—no word on for how long. And Adam Rodriguez is coming in as a possible love interest for Cookie.

"What I know is this," Rodriguez tells E! News. "Cookie and I share a similar affliction that we're battling and we sort of bond over that. I manage to save her in a moment and that starts building a bond. I don't know exactly where that's going to go but I'm hoping it goes to some good places. I can't wait to be hanging out with Taraji and have a good time."

Chris Rock is just one of many guest stars to appear on season two of Empire, which will be split up into two halves for a fall and winter season this year on Fox. Alicia Keys and Lenny Kravitz are also confirmed, and Daniels has said he's trying for Oprah Winfrey

"My first day was incredible," Rock says in Daniels' Instagram video, which is the first look at his character on set. "Worked with the great Terrence Howard, the great Lee Daniels."

Empire returns Sept 23 on FOX.
