Taylor Swift can't seem to shake off her legal woes as she's being dragged into yet another lawsuit.
R&B singer Jessie Braham is suing the 25-year-old singer for $42 million, claiming she plagiarized her "Shake It Off" lyrics from one of his songs.
He claims Swift's chorus ("Cause the players gonna play, play, play, play, play / And the haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate") rifts from his 2013 song "Haters Gonna Hate," which contains the lyrics, "Haters gonna hate / players gonna play."
His song—which you can listen to here—bears absolutely no resemblance to Swift's hit, but he is adamant about defending his case.
"Her hook is the same hook as mine," he told the New York Daily News, claiming Swift uses it about 72 times in her song. "If I didn't write the song 'Haters Gone Hate,' there wouldn't be a song called 'Shake It Off.'"
Interestingly enough, Braham's original pleas for compensation were pretty modest. All he wanted was a selfie with Swift and writing credits on the song. However, when she denied his requests, he decided it was time to file suit.
Legal battles are nothing new for the "Bad Blood" singer. She currently finds herself involved in a lawsuit with a Colorado DJ who was fired for allegedly groping her butt. Though David Mueller filed a lawsuit claiming the allegations are entirely false, Swift filed a counter-suit saying she has evidence to prove otherwise.
The court documents note, "Resolution of this Counterclaim will demonstrate that Mueller alone was the perpetrator of the humiliating and wrongful conduct targeted against Ms. Swift, and will serve as an example to other women who may resist publicly reliving similar outrageous and humiliating acts."
