If you thought you knew the real reason why Blake Shelton picked girlfriend Gwen Stefani to mentor his team on The Voice this season…you were probably right. The truth came out when the current voice coach introduced his mentor to two singers from his team who were performing in the Battle Rounds on Monday night.

After some adorable flirting between the couple, Shelton introduced "the great Gwen Stefani" to the first two competitors of the episode. Adam Wakefield and Jared Harder dueted on the country hit "Can't You See" by the Marshall Tucker Band.

"Blake wanted to bring in an expert to help you guys, so he called me," Stefani said. That might've been a joke about her lack of country music prowess, but it is an accurate assessment of the superstar's dominance in the music industry, so whatever. Let us not forget that her new album, This Is What the Truth Feels Like, is projected to land at No. 1 on the Billboard Top Album Sales chart. (Responsible for several of those copies sold? Shelton, who tweeted that he "may have gone overboard" when buying copies of his lady's CD. "OMG!!!! #Muse Gx," responded Stefani.)

"I'm getting there though. I love working outside of my lane," she added.

Plus, quipped Blake, "She's hot!"

Aha, there we have it—the truth. (Kidding, y'all, we know it was a joke.)

Press play on the videos above to see the lovebirds interact, and tune in to The Voice on Tuesday, March 22 at 8 p.m. for the conclusion of season 10's Battle Rounds.

(NBC and E! are both part of the NBCUniversal family.)
