The comedian will host the 2016 CFDA Awards, a press release announced Monday. While McHale's lengthy resume doesn't typically feature fashion, executives believe he will add a level of humor to the style-oriented evening.

"His experience as a host, an actor, a comedian and someone who comes from outside the fashion industry will keep the night lively, topical, and unexpected," Steven Kolb, President and Chief Executive Officer of the CFDA, said in a statement.

Among the star-studded guest list, which includes nominees Ashley Olsen and Mary-Kate Olsen, is Oscar and Grammy winner Jennifer Hudson, who will take the stage on June 6 at the Hammerstein Ballroom to serenade guests with a finale live performance.

While he was known for decades of chart-topping music, David Bowie's will also be honored for his stylistic prowess at the annual event with the Board of Directors' Tribute Award—an accolade that will be accepted by Oscar winner, Tilda Swinton, who previously acted as his wife in the music video for his 2013 track "The Stars (Are Out Tonight).

The annual ceremony works to recognize the top talent in the industry and supports scholarships aimed at helping young designers develop professionally.
