When Zayn Malik told Perrie Edwards it was over, he really meant it.

In Little Mix's Our World, Edwards describes what happened after the former One Direction singer abruptly ended their engagement in August 2015. "After I split with my partner, out of the blue, I had nowhere to go, which was incredibly stressful," she writes. "For a while I had no idea what to do."

Edwards and Malik had lived together in a £4.2million home in North London. Her bandmates—Jesy Nelson, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Jade Thirlwall—offered to put her up, the "Shout Out to My Ex" singer writes, "but they didn't really have room."

Moreover, she didn't want to impose on the girls as she worked through the split. "I thought about renting but I've got dogs and cats, so that was no good. At the time we were promoting 'Black Magic,' doing a lot of traveling, and while I was in America things really hit me and I panicked. I realized I was homeless," she says. "I was crying every day, dreading coming back."

Things came to a head when Edwards' manager called her one day to say her mom "had been in touch" and was "upset" over the pop star's mental state. "I told her I was stressed because I didn't know what I should do about where to live once I got back to England," Edwards explains.

The singer's mother worked with Modest! Management owner Richard Griffiths to set up a temporary living situation. "She arranged...for me to stay in his guest cottage for as long as I needed, until I got on my feet again. Thank God for him," Edwards says. "I put all my stuff in storage, took my dogs, and more or less lived out of a suitcase for a good month and a half."

Elsewhere in Our World, Edwards recounts the moment Malik ended their romance. "It was horrible, the worst time of my life. A four-year relationship, two-year engagement ended by a simple text message. Just like that," she says. "Even though things my career were going really well, it was incredibly difficult for me...On the surface I was happy, but inside I felt broken."

Malik has not commented on Edwards' revelations in Our World.
