It was the death that launched a thousand anger-fueled tweets, written with tear-soaked cheeks and snot-filled tissues. (Ew, gross!)

Of course, we are talking about the shocking death of Lexie (Chyler Leigh), which rocked the Grey's Anatomy fan base (and left us a blubbering, devastated mess). E! Online's own Marc Malkin caught up with several Grey's stars at Saturday's Chrysalis Butterfly Ball and discussed one of the TV season's most-talked about finales.

So were Eric Dane and Sarah Drew shocked by Lexie's death? And what's next for their characters? Plus, is Kim Raver down for a Teddy spinoff? Find out...

While some castmembers didn't see it coming (we'll get to that in a minute), Dane told us he wasn't surprised by Lexie's death. "I knew that Chyler wanted to spend some more time with her family, and it's difficult," he said. "It's a tough schedule to keep up and she's been working on the show for five seasons, so I wasn't shocked. A little surprised, but not shocked, and we're going to miss her."

While we're sure Mark and Lexie fans are still devastated over the fate of their favorite couple (and the lack of a happily ever after), perhaps "SLexie" fans can take some comfort in Dane confirming that Lexie was Mark's soul mate. "I think so. I think that's how it ended up." All the tears!

Unlike Dane, Drew didn't know that Leigh would be exiting the show and found out during the finale's table read. "We were all weeping at the table read because nobody knew it was coming," she explained. "There were rumors that maybe somebody might die, but nobody knew who. Well I guess she knew, but the rest of us didn't! We really did sob our way through that table read, it was pretty sad."

Raver, whose character Teddy exited the show in the finale, told us, "The table read was just so emotional. You work really together as a family, and so even though you know it's a storyline, there's so much happening on so many different levels." And yes, she was one of the criers at the table read! "I mean, sobbing, sobbing, sobbing, because there is no going back."

Still, this might not be the last viewers will see of Teddy! Creator Shonda Rhimes recently told us she'd love to do a spinoff centering on the polarizing character, an idea Raver is totally down with! "I think that would be great fun. I love working together with [Shonda]," she said. "I just think that she's just sort of one of a kind, so yeah, to be able to do a Teddy spinoff would be quite fun!"

As for fans salivating for information about what's next for April and Jackson (Jesse Williams), you're not alone! "When we did that final table read, I was like, Oh my gosh, I have to wait months to find out what happens next?!" Drew said. "I think it's a really interesting story and I think it's complex and it's different and it's not your typical TV romance. I think there's some meat to it and there's a lot to unwrap, so we'll see how it all goes."
