Arrested Development Movie: Rolling by Fall

Arrested Development Cast Art Streiber/FOX

Sorry to state the obvious, but Will Arnett is a funny, funny man.

When E! News caught up with him at the Monsters & Aliens junket to corner him about why that darned Arrested Development movie is taking so long, the jokester answered, "I think it has to do with schedules, and Jason Bateman’s been in rehab for the last two years, so when he gets out, then I think we’ll probably start."

Ha-ha. Find out what's really going down with this darned movie…

Michael Cera Still Not Signed for Arrested Movie

Michael Cera Sony Pictures

"For once and for all, the Arrested Development movie is happening!" Will Arnett tells us today.

Still, no one knows yet whether a certain beloved Bluth will be there: Superbad star Michael Cera.

That's the word Arnett, Jason Bateman and producer Mitch Hurwitz, who met with reporters to promote their new animated Fox series, Sit Down, Shut Up.

"I hope so," Hurwitz tells me when asked if Cera will do the big-screen version of Arrested, which he describes as "Valykyrie meets Hotel for Dogs." "We're just trying to get all the actors on board."

According to inside sources close to the deal, all of the main Arrested cast members have signed on to the movie except Cera, aka George-Michael Bluth.

"I know he's thinking about it," Bateman tells us. "And we're all awaiting some finality to all of that so Mitch can get writing."

So why is he holding out? And what's the movie all about?

Inside Scoop on Arrested Movie Deal!

Jason Bateman, Arrested Development Sam Urdank/ Fox

It's true! An Arrested Development movie will happen.

Reliable inside sources confirm to me that producers Mitch Hurwitz and Ron Howard have signed deals to do an Arrested movie with Imagine and Fox Searchlight.

Sources tell me exclusively that the major motion picture is budgeted at $15 million. (Translation: It will be awesome.)

"Yes, it's a go," an Arrested cast member who asked not to be named tells me. "We're all very excited. And it will happen with or without the holdout."

Wait a minute...The hold out? Yes, I'm also told exclusively by multiple sources that one of the show's original cast members has not signed on to the movie...

Will Arrested Movie Happen? The Latest From Jason Bateman

Jason Bateman, Arrested Development Sam Urdank/ Fox

Amy in Plano, Texas: Kristin, you’re killing me with the silence! What say you about the revived rumor that there might be an Arrested Development movie?
Trust me, I am just as giddy. (Been scraping myself off the ceiling, which is the only cause for delay, sorry.)

After hearing Jason Bateman tell Keith Olberman that a big-screen version of Arrested Development is “in the works” (while promoting his new movie Hancock, also starring AD's Rita, aka Charlize Theron), I promptly stalked reached out to Jason for any updates he might be willing to share with the fans. Jason tells me: “There's nothing new from what was said on Olberman. It's all in the process of being worked out, and hopefully they figure out a way.”

Please, Santie Claus?

Pals close to the sitch tell me there is no script and that [Arrested boss] Mitch Hurwitz is busy with his new animated series, Sit Down and Shut Up. But it's definitely on his radar, so here's hoping he gets things going.

Your mission? To comment below and make sure the decision makers know how much you fans want an Arrested flick. (Bonus points if you email your Bluth-loving friends to do the same.)

I’m no analrapist (an analyst/therapist) like Dr. Tobias Fünke, but seems to me it certainly couldn't hurt!

Exclusive! Jason Bateman Confirms Arrested Development Movie Talks

Jason Bateman, Jeffrey Tambor, Arrested Development Sam Urdank/FOX

This just might be the best news we Arrested fans have heard in a very long time.

Jason Bateman has just confirmed to me that the creative minds behind Arrested Development (Mitch Hurwitz and Ron Howard) have put the wheels in motion toward a major motion picture of the Fox TV comedy so many of us adore. I'm told by insiders that Jason and other Bluth family members have received calls from producers (Hurwitz and Howard) asking if they would be willing to shoot a movie.

"I can confirm that a round of sniffing has started," Bateman says. "Any talk is targeting a poststrike situation, of course. I think, as always, that it's a question of whether the people with the money are willing to give our leader, Mitch Hurwitz, what he deserves for his participation. And I can speak for the cast when I say our fingers are crossed."

Jeffrey Tambor also revealed on XM Radio's the Ron and Fez Show that he has been approached by Ron Howard to see if he's willing to do an Arrested film. (You can hear that interview below.)

For the record, both Jason and Jeffrey's answers were: Hells yeah. And I hear from other sources that other castmembers were called and that everyone seems to be very much on board and excited by the prospect.

Insiders also tell me that while creator Mitch Hurwitz does not yet have a script, he has a good, solid understanding of what he'd like to do for the movie, and Universal is very much interested.

And so it seems that a few good—wait, no, outrageously amazing—things just might come out of this unfortunate writers' strike, as the creative minds in this town have had time to pause, regroup and think about their dream projects.

And an Arrested movie is a pretty great dream, is it not?

So, let's join our crossed fingers with the rest of the cast, shall we? And how about a little support in the Comments section below?
