Did an Ex-Girlfriend Turn Bachelor Jason Sour?

Now-infamous Bachelor Jason Mesnick blew minds this week with his supreme douche bagginess, pulling a fiancée switerchroo on live TV. We were such a fan of the nice single dad until Monday, so to recover—and see if we could understand—we spoke with friends of Jason's up in Washington to see what the guy was really like, sans cameras.
"He's being portrayed pretty horribly, but it's all for ratings. He honestly is a great guy," blabbed a close friend, who met Mesnick back when he was the "lovable" golf pro up north. The pal also added that Jason, a former manny (that's right, a male nanny), is...
...just as sweet and caring to his son as was shown on the tube. Hmmm. Interesting. Which leaves us puzzled:
If he's so great, why did he treat Melissa and Molly so poorly?
"There was an ex..." theorized the close Seattle chum.
Apparently a former love (quite possibly the love of J.M.'s life) screwed him up pretty badly. Rumors swirled that Mesnick was head over heals for this par-tick babe, quasi-recently, only to be completely cheated on and humiliated.
"He was devastated. From then on he vowed to go safe. That meant Melissa—and she wasn't who he was head over heals in love with," sassed the friend.
