Canadian indie bands were celebrated at the 2009 Indies Awards Saturday night as part of the Canadian Music Week events. There were a lot of great performances including those by the Arkells, Beast and Jon Lajoie.

USS, who won the award for Favourite Group/Duo, ripped up the stage with their intensely high-energy set complete with handstands, police tape and full-size cut-outs of Einstein and Barack Obama.

Breast cancer survivor, Bif Naked, introduced the Anvil tribute video; while Anvil performed and was inducted into the Indies Hall of Fame.

Other artists awarded include Lights for Favourite Solo Artist, The Trews for Favourite Live Artist/Group, and the Midway State for Favourite Pop Artist/Group.
