Walter Cronkite, the granddaddy of television news anchors and once the most trusted man in America, got a loving send-off today.

Tom Brokaw, Andy Rooney, Dan Rather, Morley Safer, Connie Chung, Bob Schieffer, Diane Sawyer, Brian Williams, Barbara Walters, Charles Gibson, Matt Lauer and Meredith Vieira were among those attending the private funeral services at St. Batholomew's Episcopal Church in midtown Manhattan.

Cronkite, who died Friday at the age of 92, is expected to be buried alongside his beloved wife, Betsy, in his home estate of Missouri. A separate public remembrance is in the works for Lincoln Center's Avery Fisher Hall.

________

Walter Cronkite had a long, fruitful life. Not so much these pop stars, who lived hard and died young.
