In case Lauren Conrad doesn't remember, she's famous thanks to MTV.

But that didn't stop the former Hills and Laguna Beach star from taking a few digs at the network that convinced people to give a damn about the exploits of L.C., Lo and Audrina after learning that MTV passed on her new reality series about launching her own fashion house.

"We decided not to go ahead with the show," David Janollari, executive VP of programming at MTV, told EW.com. "She did do a pilot. There were talks about whether we could somehow manage to put together a special based on that footage but that's also a big question mark based on her interest in that and the finances. We love her! We would love her on our network! It was a great attempt but it just didn't feel like a perfect fit for us now."

Well, they did love her.

"We sold a show to MTV, filmed it and are really proud of the final result," Conrad said in a statement her rep gave to E! News.

"MTV felt the subject matter was too high brow for their audience and offered me the opportunity to change the show by incorporating more of my personal life. We agreed going into the project that this show would be an aspirational one, focusing on my career and my goals and not my personal relationships. We delivered the show that we sold and are sorry MTV didn't feel their viewers were savvy enough to appreciate it."

She had said last September that she was "so excited" to be rejoining the MTV family. "The new project will follow me as I develop my new contemporary line and also touch on my other businesses," she said.

Conrad, whose short-lived line of sporty-yet-pricey separates was carried at the West Hollywood boutique Kitson in 2008, launched a line of casualwear for Kohls in 2009 that has proved far more accessible for your average Hills watcher.
