Dallas Green lent his time and immense talent on Thursday night to the 5th annual Barenaked in Rosedale. Besides talking about the great charity (Serve!) we chatted about his vice. And no, he doesn’t smoke or drink…but totally loves his Freezies. He loves them so much he can’t even bare to choose a favourite colour…err, flavour. I also asked the singer about his recent V-Fest Calgary gig to which he said was great…except for the negative press which came thereafter [see video].

All the socialites stepped out for the charitable event, and at $350 a pop, you better believe it was a major schmooze-fest. But you know what? It wasn’t a snooze-fest at all. Dallas Green was great, Sarah Harmer was just as sweet and of course you can’t beat the copious amounts of free alcohol and delicious Lick’s burgers. They even hooked a sister up with a Nature burger thank-you-very-much!

I spoke with Barenaked Ladies drummer Tyler Stewart, who MC’d the event, and he had me in stitches while bringing back some buried memories. He told me all about farting on his sister’s head growing up, and yes, she confirmed it. Tyler’s sis Melanie heads Serve! the organization all the rich people’s bling was going to.

I also caught up with Sarah Harmer who informed me that she will be spending Canada Day working on her forthcoming record in a barn near the Niagara Escarpment. There might even be a cool collaboration or two on the disc. No doubt Dallas will be looking forward to that album, as he told me he was a fan of Sarah’s. In fact, my interview with him was pushed back because he wanted to chat with her longer. Who could blame him?

If you’re unfamiliar with this event and you have some cash to spare, I suggest you keep tabs on next summer’s posh BBQ because it’s a pretty cool affair, and you never really know which artists are going to hit the stage.
