A Look Out West to Vancouver Film Fest

As the silver screen spotlight is currently on Toronto, the lineup for the 2008 Vancouver International Film Festival taking place at the end of the month has just been announced.
Here are some highlights that have been released so far:
- The Stone of Destiny, which will be closing the TIFF, will be opening the Canadian Images program at the VIFF on September 26th.
- The Canadian Images program, which consists of 21 feature-length dramas, 10 feature-length documentaries, two medium-length films, and 57 shorts.
- In 2005 Deepa Mehta left a lasting impression on local and global audiences with Water and she returns in 2008 with her newest film, Heaven on Earth.
- Oscar-nominated Atom Egoyan's Adoration will also be screened.
- The BC-made Edison & Leo, along with Control, Alt, Delete by Cameron Labine, will also have special presentation screenings.
Director of VIFF, Alan Franey, introduced the Ark series, which will be the platform for elements and animal themed titles, as well as Dragon and Tigers: The Cinema of East Asia, and Spotlight on France.
The festival?s opening gala will feature Blindness, which also opened at Cannes this spring and the Toronto Film Festival last Saturday, and stars Julianne Moore with Mark Ruffalo.
The 27th annual VIFF will be held from September 25 to October 10, 2008 at the Vancity Theatre, Empire Granville 7, Ride Theatre, and Pacific Cinematheque.
The schedule will be released September 6th along with advance tickets, while general ticket and souvenir guide sales begin on September 13th. Keep checking Eonline.com for the latest on VIFF.
