Canadian celebrities turned out at Toronto's Kiehl’s location in order to raise money and awareness for World AIDS Day.
Tara Spencer-Nairn (Corner Gas), Ben Mulroney and Eva Avila (Canadian Idol), Justin Ryan and Colin McAllister (Home Heist) and Stacie Mistysyn (Degrassi: The Next Generation) were just a few of the celebrities who signed the “Kiehl’s Commitment To Community Quilt” and dipped their hands in red ink, leaving their handprints behind. The quilt will be sewn together by acclaimed fashion designer Derek Lam and auctioned off to raise funds for YouthAIDS, a charity that espouses education and prevention.
“It’s in our community. It’s in all of our lives,” says Spencer-Nairn of the disease. “It doesn’t necessarily affect all of us directly or via a significant other, but it’s in all of our lives and we can’t ignore it.”
Spencer-Nairn hopes to spread awareness, respect and love by lending her hand to World AIDS Day and encourages other Canadians to do their part in the fight against AIDS.
“Even doing the simplest, smallest, tiniest thing can help. A dollar can help. Spreading the word can help. Just being aware and sharing that awareness can help,” she says.
Celebrities and musicians outside of Canada are also rallying for support for World AIDS Day. Annie Lennox even wrote a song for the occasion!
