Canadian Musicians Tap into the True Meaning of the Season

It’s not a surprise that Andy Kim, the man behind the classic song “Sugar Sugar” is as sweet as lemon pie and cherry jam.
“I’ve just been so blessed all my life. I have had the most phenomenal ride,” the Juno Award-winning singer-songwriter told E! Online.
Wanting to give back to the community, the musician established The Andy Kim Christmas Show in 2005 to benefit children’s charities. Tonight’s show at Toronto’s Mod Club will boast the immense talents of Ron Sexsmith, Emm Gryner, Lawrence Gowan, members of Broken Social Scene and some special guests.
“It’s a wonderful feeling to be able to participate in the community and to be able to sing with some phenomenal artists at this time of year,” Kim said.
Last year, The Andy Kim Christmas Show raised over $10,000 for Children’s Aid. Tonight, they hope to exceed that total for The Sanfilippo Children’s Research Foundation, offering up hope to the families of children battling the rare genetic disorder.
Kim says that the show will be a good place to “jumpstart the Christmas spirit.”
“It is a time of year that is obviously over-commercialized, but there is a community of artists who give of themselves…underneath it all, I’m just a singer-songwriter. The fact that I’m producing this show…it’s a labour of love for me because I always know what the end result is; we’re going to have the ability to help a charity that helps children.”
It’s not too late to catch a great rock show, all the while feeling warm and fuzzy for doing your part to help aid the less fortunate. Tickets are $25 (with 100% of the proceeds going to the charity) and are available at all Ticketmaster locations.
