Five Reasons the New Bachelor Might Not Suck

The Bachelor, Jake Pavelka ABC/CRAIG SJODIN

The new Bachelor was revealed last night on Dancing With the Stars: long-rumored Denver commercial pilot Jake Pavelka of the most recent Bachelorette. But the news isn't exactly having the wow effect ABC may have been hoping for.

"Jake takes vapid to a new, almost creepy level," E.W.'s Popwatch blog wrote today.

The New York Post's Popwrap "won't watch" and calls Jake a "loser."

And a fan calling herself Emmagirl wrote to us this morning to ask, "Are you kidding? Watching that guy Jake will be like watching paint dry. I'll pass."

To which we say: Not so fast! We've talked to Jake himself and to host Chris Harrison, and here are five reasons the new Bachelor season might not suck...

Before we get into last night's episode, let me address some of my Twitter followers out there who commented on last week's blog about Wes' departure. I continue to believe that Wes is not the most sincere, the most intelligent or even the most talented of all bachelors. I do take back that he is "filth of the earth," though, and offer my apologies for going too far with a phrase that should be reserved for (as one of my tweeters said) rapists and child molesters. I also want it known that there is absolutely no excuse for threatening his family or going after his supposed girlfriend, Laurel. This show was put on TV for entertainment purposes. Wes may not be the most stand-up book on the shelf, but that doesn't mean he and his family deserve to feel unsafe in their own home.

Enough about that, moving on to last night's episode in Hawaii with the final four guys...

Controversy and drama were the name of the game last week, so I am thankful we are starting fresh (Spain to Hawaii? Jillian is a lucky girl!).

Jillian's boy time starts with Kiptyn, and on the menu is a rope course as a starter. Not much to comment on other than the cute wink he sent her during the leap-of-faith jump and the genuine support and calmness he offered her to combat her fears. The main course, however, takes them to dinner on a beautiful balcony, and Jillian immediately (well, of what we are shown) puts on a journalistic hat. I love Jillian, and I know that we only see a small percentage of their date, but does anyone else feel like she is more concerned about asking questions than living in the moment?

We know you have to kiss a lot of frogs to find your prince. But come on, Jillian Harris! You kissed half the cast of The Bachelorette in a single episode last week.

Sure, it was under the guise of a group date where you hit a movie set to do some play acting and kisses were part of the scenes, but where we come from, we have a word for girls like you.

We call it reali-tart. Can you beat that? If so, hit the Celebrity Addictionary below with your suggestions.

Trista Sutter is no stranger to love or reality TV. She appeared on the first season of three of reality's biggest shows: The Bachelor, The Bachelorette, and Dancing With the Stars, and has been happily married to Ryan Sutter since their 2003 televised nuptials, Trista & Ryan's Wedding, which drew more than 26 million viewers, making it one of the most-widely viewed episodes of nonscripted TV ever. Today, she and Ryan live in Colorado with two children, Maxwell Alston and Blakesley Grace, and she's putting all her relationship and TV experience to use for us here at Watch With Kristin by blogging weekly about the new season of The Bachelorette, featuring Jillian Harris. Take it away Trista…

Here we go, my foray into the wonderful world of blogging. Since it's my debut post, I apologize if my humor (or attempt at humor) doesn't translate. What you'll read is just my humble opinion…The way I see it. I know not everyone will agree with what I have to say, but I do hope you'll enjoy my take on this season of The Bachelorette.

Last night's episode started with host, Chris Harrison, joining the 15 remaining guys in the smelly bunkhouse and explaining the date week ahead. (Lookin' good, Mr. Harrison!) Everyone had their ears perked, and in the case of Brad, legs crossed. With that and the cold sore he had on his lip last week, he's dropping lower and lower in the ranks for me.

Here's how it all went down...

The Bachelorette's Jillian Harris on Third Place, Hot Tubs & Love

The Bachelorette, Jillian Harris ABC/CRAIG SJODIN

Jillian Harris has a new shot at love. Of course we all remember the Canadian cutie from the last season of The Bachelor and especially from that much-talked about, jaw-dropping hot tub scene with Jason Mesnick. Well, she's back and with The Bachelor way behind her, she's ready to give reality show love another shot when the new season of The Bachelorette debuts on Monday.

"Last season was definitely hard. But I learned a lot about myself and what's the harm in giving it a shot?" asks Jillian about saying yes to the show, which is being shot in Hawaii.

When asked how it feels to be third choice for The Bachelorette after Melissa Rycroft and Molly Malaney, Jillian says, "I was a third choice on last season. I know what that feels like.  I'm comfortable with that. And just also me being placed third on The Bachelor, it sort of naturally places either one of them as the natural choice. It doesn’t make me feel like I'm third. It makes me feel really happy that they declined."

"Honestly," she continues, "I'm just a short little hyper quirky Canadian and I actually don’t feel like I fit the mold of The Bachelorette very well. And I was very surprised that they asked me. "

Not as surprised as she was when a reporter on a press conference call asked her this…

Bachelor Scandal Part Deux: Why Brad Really Did It

Brad Womack, Bettina Bell CRAIG SJODIN / ABC

It actually wasn't really about the two finalists.

This is what I can tell you, after talking to a very reliable Bachelor insider, who told me the real reason for Brad's unexpected decision to choose neither Jenni nor DeAnna in the season finale. (Yes, while some people spent their holidays gobbling turkey, I spent mine trying to hunt down scoop on this particular TV turkey. What can I say? My need to know is a sickness.)

So, why did Brad freak out and run for the hills? Honestly, it's pretty surprising!
