John Kerry's Hollywood Daughter Cleared of DUI

Just as John Kerry predicted, his daughter's DUI charge has disappeared. But prosecutors say it's business as usual.

The Los Angeles City Attorney's office confirmed to E! News today that actress-filmmaker Alexandra Forbes Kerry won't be facing a misdemeanor charge following her arrest last week.

"Our prosecutors had an opportunity to review the report that was sent to us and felt there was insufficient evidence to warrant the filing of charges," spokesman Frank Mateljan said, noting that  the 36-year-old registered .06 on a breathalyzer test—a smidge under California's legal limit of .08.

He also dismissed any speculation of favoritism, saying that prosecutors traditionally decline to move forward with such borderline cases.

After she was pulled over Thursday, her ever diplomatic dad released a statement noting Alexandra was under the limit and expressing his full support for her.

Alexandra Kerry doesn't have to worry about swift boats, just boozy rides.

The filmmaking eldest daughter of former presidential candidate Sen. John Kerry was busted early Thursday for driving under the influence, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Police Department confirms to E! News.

Dad's not gonna be too happy about this.

Cops pulled over the 36-year-old Kerry, an award-winning writer-director, for driving erratically around 12:40 a.m. She was booked at the Hollywood Division station, then released after posting $5,000 bail around 5:30 a.m.

"It was a misdemeanor traffic stop but then it morphed into the DUI arrest," says Officer Bruce Borihanh.

She's best known in Hollywood circles for her 2004 Vietnam War-themed short, The Last Full Measure, which premiered at Cannes. She also produced the 2008 documentary Be Like Others, which explored the subject of transsexuals in Iran.

Shayne Lamas Michael Bezjian/Getty Images

First The Bachelor break-up and now this.

Shayne Lamas just can't seem to catch a break.

E! News has learned exclusively that the 24-year-old Leave it to Lamas reality star was taken into custody on suspicion of DUI charges just after 1:00 a.m. Saturday morning in Venice, California.

Stephanie Pratt Pulls Out the High-Heel Defense in DUI Case

Stephanie Pratt Michael Tran/Getty Images

Stephanie Pratt might not be the brightest bulb, but she could be pulling out a novel defense in her drunken-driving case:

Don't blame the booze, blame the shoes.

With The Hills star was MIA from court today, it was up to her lawyer to enter a not-guilty plea on her behalf to a misdemeanor DUI count stemming from her arrest last month.

Pratt, 23, faces up to six months in the clink and a maximum $1,000 fine if convicted. Attorney Jon Bryant Artz told the judge she is willing to serve a 30-day stint in live-in rehab, avoid driving until she gets a valid license and refrain from drinking to remain free on her own recognizance.

Outside court, Artz told E! News that Pratt was really pulled over for her tinted windows and "there's no impaired driving or driving that indicates she was under the influence."

He also implied the reason Pratt may have biffed a field sobriety test was because she was having a hard time negotiating the course in her 4-inch-heeled boots.

Judge to Lindsay: You Can't Handle the Truancy!

Lindsay Lohan Pascal Le Segretain/Getty Images

Lindsay Lohan has one more chance—and one more year—to get herself in order.

After being ominously summoned (and, in true Lindsay style, arriving more than an hour late) to her progress hearing this morning, the judge agreed to extend the star's probation by 12 months to allow her adequite adequate time to complete her court-ordered alcohol education program, one of the remaining outstanding holdouts from her 2007 DUI bust.

But not without first issuing a few scared straight-style warnings.

While Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Marsha Revel said in court that she was "rooting" for Lohan to successfully complete her probation, she made clear that any future, unaccounted for disruptions to her program would not be tolerated.

"This is the last time we will be talking about re-enrolling," Revel said. "Anytime you request a leave of absence for more than 21 days, you must get court approval. If you don't do that, the deputy district attorney will be asking for jail time."

Not that the leave of absence itself is without some fairly strict parameters.

The Streets Are Safe From Artie Lange...for Now

Artie Lange Jeffrey Ufberg/Getty Images

This is almost too easy for Howard.

Artie Lange, whose sobriety-challenged history has made from countless punchlines The Howard Stern Show, presumably is getting a lift to the studio for the near future after copping to a DUI count in New Jersey.

The 41-year-old funnyman pleaded guilty to being under the influence of prescription sleeping pills when he crashed his car in the Toms River back on July 10.

The judge in turn revoked Lange's license for seven months, ordered him to attend DUI classes, fined him $600—and provided Stern enough fodder to make it through the rest of the week.

Pulp Fiction Oscar Winner Sentenced to Jail for Fatal DUI

Pulp Fiction, Roger Avary Miramax Films, Jeffrey Mayer/Getty Images

He won't be walking the Earth like Caine in Kung Fu anytime soon.

Roger Avary, the screenwriter who nabbed an Academy Award cowriting Pulp Fiction with Quentin Tarantino, has been sentenced to a year in jail stemming from a fatal 2008 drunken-driving accident that took the life of a friend.

Ventura County Superior Court Judge Edward Bordie also gave Avary five years' probation and ordered him to enroll in a DUI education program. Bordie justified the relatively light punishment by stating that 44-year-old filmmaker had shown remorse and had no criminal background.

After initially pleading innocent last December, Avary changed his mind and pleaded guilty Aug. 18 to gross vehicular manslaughter and drunken driving.

According to police, he was driving over 100 mph when he lost control of his Mercedes and slammed into a telephone pole. The crash killed his passenger, Andreas Zini, a friend visiting from Italy. Avary's wife was ejected from the car and sustained non-life threatening injuries.

Where was the Wolf when he needed him?

Avary also penned 2006's Silent Hill and 2007's Beowulf, and directed 1994's Killing Zoe.

George Michael Marc Susset/WireImage.com

Lori Petty Slapped With Not-So-Petty DUIs

Lori Petty Barry King/Getty Images

Tank Girl officially charged with being really tanked.

Los Angeles prosecutors today rung up Lori Petty on two misdemeanors as a result of her bust for driving under the influence Saturday night.

The 45-year-old, who was arrested in Venice after allegedly hitting a skateboarder with her car, was slapped with one count each of DUI with injury and DUI with a blood-alcohol level of 0.08 percent or higher. She was also charged with driving without proof of insurance.

The skateboarder, whose identity has not been made public, was treated on the scene for minor injuries. Petty was not injured, but was taken into police custody and jailed for roughly five hours before being released on $100,000 bail.

While the driving without insurance infraction could set Petty back $200, the other two charges carry a considerably higher penalty for the former House guest star: If found guilty, she could face up to one year in county jail per charge along with a $1,000 fine.

Petty's arraignment has been set for June 25.
