George Clooney Descends Into Payne
George Clooney is making a Sideways move. The creator of Sideways, meanwhile, is making a George Clooney move.
The star is teaming up with Sideways' Oscar-winning writer-director Alexander Payne for The Descendants, a no doubt Academy-baiting dramedy due out in 2010.
Per Variety, the film (Payne's first since 2004's wine-soaked statue collector) will follow a wealthy landowner who, in attempt to keep his family together, picks up sticks with his two daughters on a quest to find his wife's new lover.
The hard part will be getting the audience to believe anyone would leave Clooney in the first place.
Cameras roll this February in Hawaii (it's a tough job, but someone's gotta do it).
Meanwhile, honing his craft in a much less idyllic locale is Owen Wilson, who's looking to reprise his dog-day success of Marley & Me by voicing the titular canine Marmaduke in Fox's live-action/CGI adaptation of the long-running comic strip.
The film, which also features the pipes of Fergie, Steve Coogan, George Lopez, Damon and Marlon Wayans, is due out next June.

George Clooney's New GF Does Maxim, But Is She Last Month's News?
In case you haven't seen Elisabetta Canalis on the arm of George Clooney at the film fests in Venice or London, now you can check her out in all her buff-body glory in this month's Maxim.
Of course, racy pics are nothing new for this Italian TV presenter...she's already posed for (NSFW) naked pics before.
And while we admit she looks great in the four-page spread, we have to wonder if her relationship with George is bound to go the way of those of Krista Allen, Lisa Snowdon, Celine Balitran...well, you get the idea.
Remember Sarah Larson...
Matchmaker: Jen Aniston Should Date Clooney
Too bad George Clooney has a new Italian girlfriend.
Matchmaker Steven Ward from VH1's Tough Love thinks George would be good for Jennifer Aniston to date.
"I think every guy since Brad has always been a little bit or significantly younger than her," he said at ET and People mag's Emmys afterparty. "I don't know if she'd have any chemistry with someone like George Clooney, but definitely someone's who a bit older and more established and has his act together."
And despite her perennial single-girl status, he thinks Jen's not in a committed relationship by choice...
Better Watch Your Back, Damon!
Matt Damon might be alive and kicking, but who knows after George Clooney is finished with him.
To continue our ever-expanding coverage of hijinks between the two, Clooney is prepping for retaliation against The Informant! star who is semi-responsible for a gay fan's widely-publicized stripper-gram last week.
The other culprit? Another member of the Ocean's bromance, Brad Pitt.
At the Venice Film Festival premiere of his new flick Up in the Air, E! News presented Clooney with a very simple question: "What are you going to do to Damon for Italiagate?"
His response? "I'm going to do something. I've got something big planned."
So, there you have it. Damon, you've been warned. Pitt, you should probably watch your back, too.
Damon, Pitt Behind Clooney's Stripping Man-Fan?
With friends like these...
The very-much-alive Matt Damon turned up on Late Night With David Letterman last night and, aside from breathing, made some news by offering a possible explanation for buddy George Clooney being ambushed by a clothes-eschewing would-be gay lover at the Venice Film Festival earlier this week.
It was Damon's fault. And Brad Pitt's.
As Damon tells it, Pitt was getting so fed up with Italian journos' queries about when he was going to tie the knot with Angelina Jolie, he finally blurted out that he'd do the deed once "George Clooney marries his boyfriend."
"So this Italian journalist comes in and goes, Matt, is it true what Brad say?" Damon, in his best Eye-talian accent, recounts to Letterman. "And I have no idea what he us talking about But you know, I go, 'Yeah, of course it's true.' And he says, 'Do you mean George Clooney have a boyfriend?' And now I'm trying to keep a straight face and I go, 'Yeah, of course he's got a boyfriend. And he wants to legally marry him? We've been on him about this for years...' "
Flash forward to Tuesday, Damon turns on CNN and "this guy stands up and says, 'George!...I am a gay.' And this guy starts peeling his clothes off and he says, 'If you musta choose, choose me!' "
"I'm sure George is still laughing about that one," says Letterman.
Right. All we can say is watch out, Damon. Payback's a bitch.

Joking aside, Clooney doesn't need any help in the romance department. Take a gander at some of his ladyloves.
Big Lebowski Bunch Saddling Up for True Grit
This could be awesome.
Jeff Bridges, forever beloved as The Dude in The Big Lebowski, is in talks to reteam with the Coen Brothers on a remake of True Grit, reports Variety.
The original 1969 version won John Wayne his very first Oscar.
Based on Charles Portis' sublime and hilarious novel about a young woman who enlists a drunken U.S. Marshall named Rooster Cogburn to avenge her father's murder, the Coen's version is said to be truer to the book, which is told from the woman's comically single-minded POV.
The timing could be just right, as Bridges seems on a roll with Iron Man and his Dude-esque turn in The Men Who Stare at Goats with George Clooney. The Coens also have a new film A Serious Man.
And if doesn't work out, they can always go bowling.

George Clooney's Close Encounter of the Gay Stripper Kind
George Clooney came prepared to the Venice Film Festival.
Buzzworthy new flick. Check. Hot Italian girlfriend. Check. Crazy gay fanatic. Check and double check.
Clooney was fielding queries during a televised press conference for his new movie, The Men Who Stare at Goats, when he got an eyeful from a male questioner.
"I am gay, George, and I think I am in love with you...Please take me," the dude said, stripping down to his underwear. "May I kiss you, please. Just one kiss?"
The ever-chill Clooney didn't miss a beat. "It's hard when you take a big chance and it doesn't really work," he chuckled.
"It's always embarassing when you take one real big swing for the fences and it just falls flat," said Clooney, who was decidedly not persuaded to do some switch hitting. "It was a good try though."
George Clooney Debuts Italian Girlfriend in Venice
Forget that bandage he's sporting. Let's talk about the arm candy George Clooney showed off at the Venice Film Festival: Elisabetta Canalis.
Although the two have been snapped vacationing in Lake Como together, this is the notorious bachelor's first public appearance with the Italian TV presenter. That means it's serious, folks (in Hollywood terms, at least).
The duo arrived in style on a water taxi the day before the premiere of Clooney's newest movie, The Men Who Stare at Goats, and the two are already the talk of the town.
Italian papers are even dubbing the couple as the new Brangelina. And just like Brad and Angie, their little love affair may have been undercover for a while...
George Clooney to Star in Greatest Movie Ever Made
OK, we'll wait until we actually see The Men Who Stare at Goats before we make our final decision on its place in film history, but this trailer makes us want to see this movie right now.
George Clooney, Ewan McGregor, Kevin Spacey and—thank you!—Jeff Bridges in full Lebowski-esque glory unite for a based-on-a-true story tale about a secret government project to create psychic soldiers who can kill with their minds—even as some just have trouble walking through walls.
Although there's probably darker underpinnings to the film, any clip that has Clooney announcing that he's a Jedi warrior to the guy who played Obi-Wan Kenobi is all right by us. Doing it to the strains of Boston's "More Than a Feeling" doesn't hurt, either.
What say you—will you see this? Or do you think we are under the control of Clooney's moustache?

Wednesday in the Airport With George
Who wouldn't want to spent a few hours in the airport with George Clooney? It's probably the only time you'd wind up wishing for a delay.
Alas, this mid-terminal moment is a new photo from the movie king's latest, Up in the Air.
The film is about a corporate downsizing expert whose only goal in life is to reach one million frequent flier miles. Of course, that plan goes haywire when he meets a lucky lady traveler.
The movie, premiering at Toronto Film Festival next month, also stars Vera Farmiga, Jason Bateman, Danny McBride and Twilight's Anna Kendrick. Something tells us he's not really thinking about any of them in this quixotic image…
Check out the poster for the film after the jump.
George Clooney and Hollywood's Hottest Bikers
George Clooney, galpal Elisabetta Canalis, supermodel Cindy Crawford and Crawford's husband Rande Gerber may not be the toughest motorcycle gang, but they are probably the best looking.
The fab foursome took to the road this weekend, and the only bad thing we can say about them is that it's harder to check them out when they've got all that protective gear on.
But Clooney makes a good point, kids: Safety before sexy always.

George Clooney's New Amore Interest in Italy
Perennial bachelor George Clooney has found himself a new girl while summering at his villa in Lake Como, Italy.
Not only has he been spotted with Sardinian model Elisabetta Canalis on the back of his motorcycle, but they had a PDA-packed dinner date last night.
The new twosome shared a romantic meal at Gallura restaurant in Rome, where sources say they were kissing at the table.
Wanna see who the woman is who's caught George's attention (for now, at least)?
