Holly Madison may have more free time on her hands (and feet) since she was booted from Dancing With the Stars, but that doesn’t mean she's on the prowl for a new beau.

"I just want to do my own thing," the Girls Next Door star told me earlier today. "I don't want to be known for being attached to a guy." (The former girlfriend of Hugh Hefner most recently dated Mindfreak illusionist Criss Angel for a few months, before the pair split in late February.)

While Madison left the ABC show last night with bruises on her legs and thighs and an injured rib, she insists she doesn't regret one minute of it.

It's official.

Confirming the rumors, Girl Next Door Holly Madison sashayed over to Dancing With the Stars tonight to replace Jewel, who dropped out last week after training left her with fractured bones in both legs.

With Jewel sitting in a stageside (next to the also-injured Nancy O'Dell, who has been replaced by The Bachelor's Melissa Rycroft), Madison made her debut dancing a cha-cha in an orange mini dress. "I'm so scared," Madison said in a pre-taped introduction that showed her rehearsing with partner Dmitry Chaplin.

She had good reason to be. While most of the other contestants had about three to four weeks to work on their fancy footwork, Ms. Madison had just six days.

Hugh Hefner told me exclusively on Thursday that he arranged for his ex-girlfriend to join the show's eighth season.

Judge Len Goodman said Madison's performance "wasn't bad" considering the short time she's had to practice. "I'm sure you're going to come out [next week] and be fabulous," Goodman predicted of her and Chaplin's upcoming quick step.

As for their score, the two walked with away with an 18 out of a possible 30.

Jewel’s doctor couldn’t have been more clear when he told her to quit Dancing With the Stars.

“He said, ‘You’re done,’” Jewel says. “You’re not going to dance and you’re not going to walk! You’re on crutches.”

It was announced today that the singer was stepping away from the eighth season of DWTS because her training has left her with fractured tibiae in both legs. She’ll be on crutches for about six weeks. (Also out because of leg injuries is Access Hollywood cohost Nancy O’Dell.)

I caught up with Jewel this afternoon before her gig tonight in Highland, CA. Yes, she planned to perform sitting down...

Sources confirm that Girl Next Door Holly Madison will replace Jewel in the new season of ABC's hit reality competition show.

I'm told that the Jewel-Madison switcheroo happened pretty quickly, too.

Madison agreed to join the celeb dance-off on Monday, and by yesterday she was already rehearsing at an L.A. studio with partner Dmitry Chaplin.
