Imagine this: While the entire world watches the largest meteor shower in 10,000 years, a portion of a dead star smashes into the moon sending fragments raining down on the earth.

Fortunately, the damage to the earth seems minimal and everyone breathes a sigh of relief. Then abnormalities begin to surface: cell phone disruption, static charges, odd tidal behaviour, and cars and people momentarily defying gravity.

Scientists investigate and discover the moon was forced into a new orbit, which places it on a collision course with the earth. The only solution is a low percentage suicide mission to the moon. With the countdown on, mankind has only 39 before impact!

Extreme Makeover: Home Edition's year-long mission to find everyday heroes leads them to Indianapolis, Indiana, where the deteriorating home of the McFarland family will be rebuilt by Ty Pennington's crew in just seven days, on the special two-part season finale on Sunday, May 17 on E!

Inspired by a librarian, Bernard McFarland learned the power of books and the weight of words at an early age. Though raised in an impoverished family, Bernard overcame obstacles with his thirst for knowledge and graduated from college. He then joined the military, and afterwards returned to his hometown with his three sons.

In a community where violence was on the rise and kids were dropping out of school, Bernard set out on a mission to change those statistics and redirect the minds of the children in his hometown with "Pack House 2000," a program dedicated to helping exercise the minds and expanding the dreams of these youngsters by forming reading groups and organizing field trips to libraries, museums and cultural events throughout the city—all despite having few resources.
