Yeehaw! Matt Damon, Josh Brolin Get Gritty

Matt Damon, All the Pretty Horses, Josh Brolin, No Country For Old Men, Jeff Bridges, Wild Bil Columbia Pictures, Miramax Pictures, United Artists

Matt Damon's family emergency appears to have found a happy resolution—and not a moment too soon. After the briefest of Damon dry spells, he's back to fulfilling all of our paparazzi-catching, movie-acquiring needs.

Wasting no time getting back in the saddle, the Oscar winner is in talks with Josh Brolin—who knows from both Academy Award nominations and westerns himself—to star in a reimagining of the iconic 1969 cowboy flick True Grit (which, incidentally, earned John Wayne his only Oscar).

According to Variety, the duo would star alongside Jeff Bridges in the Joel and Ethan Coen flick. Should discussions turn to done deals, it would mark a reunion for everyone but Damon; the brothers Coen previously toiled with Bridges the Dude on The Big Lebowski and clocked hours with Brolin on the Academy lovefest No Country for Old Men.

The remake would follow Damon and Bridges joining forces with a teenage girl to track down her father's killer; Brolin would play the bad guy. The testosterone-heavy flick is due out in late 2010.

This could be awesome.

Jeff Bridges, forever beloved as The Dude in The Big Lebowski, is in talks to reteam with the Coen Brothers on a remake of True Grit, reports Variety.

The original 1969 version won John Wayne his very first Oscar.

Based on Charles Portis' sublime and hilarious novel about a young woman who enlists a drunken U.S. Marshall named Rooster Cogburn to avenge her father's murder, the Coen's version is said to be truer to the book, which is told from the woman's comically single-minded POV.

The timing could be just right, as Bridges seems on a roll with Iron Man and his Dude-esque turn in The Men Who Stare at Goats with George Clooney. The Coens also have a new film A Serious Man.

And if doesn't work out, they can always go bowling.

George Clooney to Star in Greatest Movie Ever Made

Loading...

OK, we'll wait until we actually see The Men Who Stare at Goats before we make our final decision on its place in film history, but this trailer makes us want to see this movie right now.

George Clooney, Ewan McGregor, Kevin Spacey and—thank you!—Jeff Bridges in full Lebowski-esque glory unite for a based-on-a-true story tale about a secret government project to create psychic soldiers who can kill with their minds—even as some just have trouble walking through walls.

Although there's probably darker underpinnings to the film, any clip that has Clooney announcing that he's a Jedi warrior to the guy who played Obi-Wan Kenobi is all right by us. Doing it to the strains of Boston's "More Than a Feeling" doesn't hurt, either.

What say you—will you see this? Or do you think we are under the control of Clooney's moustache?
