Are Any Former Child Stars Happy and Successful?

Natalie Portman, The Professional, Neil Patrick Harris, Doogie Howser, Leonardo DiCaprio, Growing Pains, Kristen Stewart, Panic Room Columbia Pictures; ABC; ABC; Columbia Pictures
More from Ask the Answer Bitch

The death of Corey Haim has me and my friends wondering: Is this just what happens to child stars? Does the life of a child actor eliminate any chance of a normal, happy future?
—Gary, Brooklyn, via the Answer B!tch inbox

Between the terrible news about the death of Corey Haim at 38; the suicide of one-time Growing Pains actor Andrew Koenig; and the ongoing, off-and-on dramas involving folks like Lindsay Lohan and Gary Coleman, it's easy to draw negative conclusions about early exposure to show business.

But you'd be wrong.

In fact you may not even be aware that some of your favorite actors have been at it since they were wee:

Leonardo DiCaprio's Girlfriend Says They're Not Engaged—in Hebrew!

Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of Adobe's Flash Player. Get the latest Flash player.

You can stop checking your mailbox for a wedding invite from Leonardo DiCaprio and Bar Refaeli.

They aren't getting married. Yet.

Our E! Israel colleague Ori Ziv asked the Sports Illustrated model about the ring she's been sporting. The interview in Hebrew, but we've got the translation.

When asked if the ring was an engagement token from the Shutter Island star, Refaeli says it's from a friend.

Uh huh. But was there a proposal?

"No, there wasn't," she confirms. "Let me explain: These rings—which are beautiful and made by a friend of mine—won't fit any other finger except this one."

So all this engagement talk is just some crazy story? (We paraphrase.)

"Yeah, what can I do? I'm 24 and there's still time. I'm in no hurry. I'm happy with where I am," she says.

And then she flashes a huge smile, which needs no translation.

Shutter to Think: Leo Bigger Than Ever

Shutter Island, Michelle Williams, Leonardo DiCaprio Paramount Pictures

Leonardo DiCaprio lost his crown this year as box-office king of the world. But he rebounded nicely this weekend with the biggest opener of his career.

Shutter Island dominated the competition with an estimated $40.2 million Friday-Sunday, a bigger haul than DiCaprio's last two movies made during their entire respective runs.

Meanwhile, Avatar, the movie that trumped DiCaprio's Titanic, celebrated its 10th weekend by moving up to third place, scoring another $16.1 million—and putting itself days away from an unprecedented $700 million-plus domestic gross.

Stay tuned for the complete Top 10 standings…

Who shops at Target? Aside from everybody? Leonardo DiCaprio and girlfriend Bar Refaeli, that's who! The supercouple graced our favorite one-stop shop with their presence—and an insane pack of paparazzi—and E! News and Daily 10's Michael Yo spotted them swarmed by cameras

"It always shocks the hell out of you when these people pop out of nowhere," Leo tells Yo.

After running errands—they do have a wide selection of engagement rings—Leo caught up with E! News to chat about Shutter Island, which he promises you'll have to see more than once. Why? Because "there's so much going on!"

Check out the clip for more on that Target fiasco, Marty Scorsese and Leo's tips for new actors trying to make it big.

Leonardo DiCaprio and Bar Refaeli Not Engaged

Leonardo DiCaprio and Bar Refaeli aren't walking down the aisle just yet.

The stunning supermodel sparked rumors of impending nuptials after she sported a ring on her engagement finger Monday evening at a charity dinner.

But a source close to the Shutter Island star says DiCaprio didn't celebrate Valentine's Day by putting a ring on it.

Rather the Golden Globe winner and his lady love were in Germany for the Cinema for Peace Gala 2010 during the Berlin Film Festival, according to reports. (His mom came, too.)

It looks like this on-and-off couple is back on…to just being a couple.

Why Didn't This DiCaprio Movie Come Out Last Year?

More from Ask the Answer Bitch

What's the deal with Shutter Island? They had trailers out early fall, and now they're opening the movie in the dead of winter. Did Scorsese and DiCaprio make a stinker they're trying to hide?
—Karen in Indiana, via the Answer B!tch inbox

If you have Martin Scorsese lighting up your phones asking why his picture has been moved from October—the height of Oscar season—to February, you cite circumstances largely out of your control.

You say you don't have the money to showcase the movie properly until 2010. And that your star, Mr. Leonardo DiCaprio, is, of course, a legend in his own time, much like you, Mr. Scorsese, but he's not available for international publicity junkets right this second.

And that is, in fact, what Paramount has said, to Scorsese and the press. (Meantime, we're getting some pretty righteous trailers, like this new Super Bowl spot that came out today.)

Movie marketing insiders tell me these reasons are indeed valid—but they may not be the full story...

Forget The Departed. This case is more like The Deported.

Aretha Wilson, the woman accused of slashing Leonardo DiCaprio's pretty mug at a Hollywood party four years ago, has waived her rights to extradition. She will be sent from Toronto, where she's currently in custody for a similar incident, back to Los Angeles for a trial that could feature DiCaprio as its star witness.

"She is going to be coming back to L.A., but I just don't know when," says Los Angeles district attorney spokeswoman Jane Robison.

More from H'Wood Party Girl

The Golden Globes may be starting any minute (at least the red carpet portion), but several A-listers kicked things off early last night, going out to celebrate at Paramount's party at the Chateau Marmont.

Leonardo DiCaprio was there with on-again girlfriend Bar Refaeli, holding court at a table with George Clooney and Martin Scorsese. The guys were all smoking cigars together and presumably trading stories (oh, to be a fly on that wall!). Leo is presenting a lifetime achievement award to the legendary director today.

Other guests at the starry soiree included Tina Fey, Jodie Foster and Rose McGowan.
