Michael Jackson Forever

I was 14 years old in 1984 when the Jackson 5 reunited for their history-making Victory Tour.

The New York Post ran a contest to win tickets. It was simple. Just send in your name, address and phone number to be added to a random drawing that would be conducted on the radio by Tito Jackson. I think I sent in about 20 entries. I remember filling them out while watching Saturday Night Live.

It wasn't long after that my mom came into my bedroom to tell me someone was on the phone for me. It was someone from the New York Post. I had won two tickets to one of I don't know how many concerts Michael and his brothers did at Madison Square Garden.

The next day, I took the subway to the Post offices. I was given my tickets along with a pin in the shape of a silver glove that read, "I heart Michael."

Tito not only said my name on the radio, but the Post printed my full address. My mother freaked. The tickets were so hot she was afraid someone would break into our apartment for them. She hid the tix from me and my brother. She wouldn't tell anyone where they were.

The big night arrived. I wore black parachute pants, a black studded belt and a black T-shirt.

And yes, I wore that silver glove pin.

God bless, Michael Jackson.
