Hot-buttered opinion on the latest flicks

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

A
Things just keep getting Harry-er at Hogwarts. In the moodier, scarier and more emotionally mature third installment of the bespectacled boy wizard's life, he squares off against werewolves, shapeshifters, a suspected murderer and, most frightening of all, puberty. Director Alfonso Cuar?n embraces the content of the darker story and the growth of the three leads (Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint) and infuses this flick with a creepiness untapped in the earlier films. His creative editing of the lengthy book will bother only the hardest of the hard-core Potterheads. Otherwise, Cuar?n has crafted a well-paced tween movie that feels modern, timeless, funny and frightening all at once. Easily the best Potter film so far, you feel as if the magic is only just beginning.
