SYTYCD Eliminations: And Then There Were 16...

SYTYCD Top 18 Mike Ruiz/FOX

Being cut this early in the So You Think You Can Dance season is brutal on the dancers (they just made the Top 20!), but for us spectators, at least we have the small mercy of only having just met them.

If nothing else, tonight's two eliminated dancers weren't spotlighted so early in the audition process that we became attached. Letting go of these talented two won't be easy, and it hardly seems fair, but if someone absolutely positively had to leave, these two aren't the worst-case scenario...

The bottom three couples were Max & Kayla (after dancing Brian Friedman's pop-jazz routine last night), Caitlin & Jason (who danced the first Shane Sparks hip-hop) and Kupono & Ashley (who danced the second Shane Sparks hip-hop).

After the six solos, the non-unanimous judges decided to eliminate Max Kapitannikov and Ashley Valerio. (Nigel said the judges felt that Ashley's solo had "no great substance" and complimented Max's work ethic but said that he was "restricted by [his] ballroom style.")

Max and Ashley's former partners, Kayla Randomski and Kupono Aweau, will dance together beginning next week.

Also featured on the elimination show was a look at Ryan Kasprzak's audition for season six (he's through to Vegas!) and the bear-hug he got from the Other Brother. Yep, there's a third Kasprzak brother out there who hilariously wears an Other Brother shirt so we know where he fits into the family tree, but what's his real name?! Someone must know!

Tell us in the comments if you can name of the third Kasprzak, and all the rest of you: Did you think the judges picked the right two dancers to send off the show? Weigh in below!
