After lots of speculation over which NCIS stars (other than Rocky Carroll) might be making guest appearances on the new spinoff, NCIS: Los Angeles, show runner Shane Brennan broke the news this afternoon that Pauley Perrette is set for episode two.

"She does a crossover and she's directly involved with helping us solve the case. It's a fun little cameo for her," he told reporters at the Television Critics Association Q&A session.

We bum-rushed Shane after the panel and squeezed a bit more dish out of him about the good news…

"We have plans for her to perhaps be in more episodes," Shane told us. "And perhaps not just her. I can't tell you yet."

He did tell us a bit more about what to expect from the first episode, which they just completed. That ep takes place four months after what went down in the NCIS "Legend 1" and "Legend 2" spinoff episodes.

"It's Callen's (Chris O'Donnell) first day back on the job, and we see his scars. We literally see his scars," he said. "And he rolls into this new venue and away we go from there. Will we answer what happened to him and how it happened and why? In the very best tradition of NCIS, yes. And in the very best tradition of NCIS, you'll just have to wait. So it will be a sweeps episode. I'll give you that."

He didn't tease too much more about the season other than they plan to travel outside of L.A. ("We may end up in South America. We may travel a little more than we do on the D.C. show," he said.); LL Cool J's character Sam Hanna beats "the crap out of" a punching bag in episode three; and there's a deep backstory between Callen and Sam that will slowly reveal itself.
